Burglars steal valuables, underwear from sororities

     For some Gannon University students, returning from Thanksgiving Break was a bittersweet time.
     Before students leave for any university break, the Office of Campus Police and Safety stresses the importance of making sure doors and windows are locked and that students take the appropriate measures to keep their possessions safe.
     Unfortunately, locked doors and windows were not enough to keep someone from breaking into both the Alpha Sigma Alpha and Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority houses, located on West Fifth and Eighth streets, respectively.
Several bottles of perfume, two DVDs and some blank CDs were stolen from the ASA house. Two cameras, blank CDs, a Coach bracelet, a Tiffany necklace, an iPod and six pairs of underwear were stolen from the Sigma house. 
     Director of Campus Police and Safety James Waldon said that at the moment no suspects have been arrested, but the appropriate measures are being taken.
     “Any time there is a burglary, our officers take a report and attempt to preserve the crime scene; then we notify the Erie Police who come and process the crime scene,” Waldon said.
     A student at 501 Myrtle St. was also the victim of a burglary, however at this time it is unknown if any possessions are missing.
     Jen Lindberg, junior physician assistant major, said that the ASA sisters are taking steps to prevent any more break-ins. 
     “We’re making sure that we lock all of our doors and leaving lights on whether or not we’re there,” the new sorority president said. 
     “We’re also keeping Campus Police and Safety informed of our status, like when we’re going to be away for long periods of time.”
