Knight Vision: SGA petitions due
By:
Believe or not, it’s that time of year again for interested students to send in their applications for the Student Government Association to represent Gannon University’s student body for the 2010-2011 academic year. Signature packets are available at the front desk in the Waldron Campus Center. However, students must collect 75 signatures from fellow classmates in order to place their name on a ballot. Petitions are due by noon March 10. For those full of ideas and ready to contribute them toward an organization with influence, now is the time to consider SGA. As college students, it is our duty to become involved in the university we call home – and SGA is a great place to channel that energy and make a difference. SGA flourishes from enthusiastic individuals who care about their campus community. Change won’t happen until students pick up those signature packets and get to work. Gannon’s SGA is a student-run organization that acts as the official vote of the student body and aims to achieve thoughtful goals that are set for and by the student population. The organization consists of nine representatives from each class, seven functional representatives and eight executive board officers. SGA at Gannon provides funding for all university-recognized clubs and organizations and is an outlet for students’ voices and takes into consideration their comments, opinions and suggestions. Even if a student isn’t an SGA member, all are welcome to attend meetings and actively participate in different committees. The organization even has a newly formatted feedback section on its Web site where students can check up on the organization’s progress and provide comments on what they would like to see. For those not interested in joining SGA, don’t hesitate to pick up a pen and support peers who feel the call to serve on student government. It only takes a second to sign a paper – remember, everyone has the right to throw their name in and run for a position.
