President: Mike Krysiak
Why are you running for SGA president?
I’m running for SGA president simply because I believe I’m the best candidate for the position. I want to use my leadership abilities to guide SGA toward being the true voice of the students. I will be unbiased in my opinions toward university teams, clubs and organizations and do my best to represent the student body to faculty and the administration.
What are your goals if elected president of SGA?
I have two main goals for SGA to accomplish if I am elected president. The first being expanding and improving the idea of Unity Week. I think that it’s a fantastic idea and should be a primary focus of SGA. We should be bringing all of the different teams, clubs and organizations together year round, not just one week. The second being a greater accountability to the student body. We’ve been experimenting with the LiveStream technology where students can watch our meetings online without having to leave the comfort of their dorms. I want to have the student body’s input on everything that we do because after all we are just representatives of the students.
Why did you get involved with SGA?
I first joined SGA to involve myself further on campus and because I wanted to see how well the average student’s voice is heard and provide the best input I could as a newcomer. I’m really glad that I did – the executive board and class reps are great and I’ve met a lot of new people who I may not have if I never joined SGA.
What have you accomplished during your time on SGA so far?
I started off this year by participating in SGA during Preview GU for freshmen students. As a member of the junior class we have been holding “HUMP Day”s throughout the year where we hand out a little something to help brighten people’s days while receiving their input on a survey that changes every week. I’ve helped keep the meetings a place of discussion by not being afraid to challenge motions that I feel are against what the students want.
Is there anything else you want the student body to know about you?
I’m an Army ROTC cadet and in a little over a year I’m going to be in charge of millions of dollars of personnel and equipment. I want to preface that leadership role with another challenging but rewarding position in being SGA president. Make sure you vote!
