<p>The Division of Mission &amp; Ministry welcomes all to attend “Mass on the Grass” at 11 a.m.  Thursday on Friendship Green. The offertory collection taken up will benefit Relay for Life and a complimentary pizza picnic will follow.</p>

<p>Correction for Issue 23</p>
<p>The News section wrote in the April 24 issue that University Marketing and Communications declined to comment on the recent arrest of a student in the Nash Library. However, the office did submit a statement which The Knight failed to print: A University Marketing and Communications spokeswoman said Tuesday that Gannon Police and Safety officials responded to Nash Library regarding an “irrational student,” and after evaluating the situation they called in the Erie police for assistance. It has been updated on www.gannonknight.com.</p>

<p>University housing check out approaching</p>
<p>Students are reminded that they must check out of housing by 9 p.m. on Friday, May 10. Students who neeed an exception must fill out a break form online by 4 p.m.  Friday on the myHousing link in the Gannon Portal. Reasons for exception include: graduating seniors, students working at graduation, students who live more than four hours away from campus that have a final on Friday and those students who applied for summer housing.</p>
<p>Springtopia events lighten pre-final mood</p>
<p>On Thursday, students are welcome to attend inflatables at noon and an 8 p.m. showing of “Identity Thief” on the Friendship Green. On Friday, students can participate in an inflatable obstacle course at the CAP Field at 2 p.m. All events are sponsored by the Activities Programming Board.</p>

<p>Campus Ministry invites students, faculty, staff and all members of the Gannon community to attend a memorial service in memory of Jason Wahl at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel.</p>
<p>The memorial is held shortly after the one-year anniversary of Wahl’s death on April 13.</p>
<p>Wahl died after incurring head injuries when he fell from the second-floor balcony of the Alpha Phi Delta fraternity house.</p>

<p>Student Technology Support Center training available</p>
<p>The Student Technology Support Center in Nash Library is now offering software troubleshooting and training.</p>
<p>The support center’s student workers have been trained on Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2010 essentials through Lynda.com, an online video-training library that has more than 1,400 software, career development and technology training titles.</p>
<p>The students were also trained on scanning photos and the use of Photoshop tools and the Adobe Creative Suite and can assist or answer questions.</p>
<p>The service is available from 6-9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 3-9:30 p.m. Sunday.</p>

<p>Prohibition makes resurgence at Late Knight event</p>
<p>The Knight, WERG and Sigma Tau Delta will host its Late-Knight recruitment event, a 1920s-style “Speakeasy,” at 9 p.m. Friday at The Knight Club.</p>
<p>Join us for a  fun night of moonshine mocktails, food, prizes, a costume contest and more. And don’t forget, this is a prohibition event – you’ll need a password to get in. Just say “Gatsby” at the door.</p>

<p>College of Engineering and Business dean search sessions</p>
<p>The College of Engineering and Business announces on-campus interviews with three candidates for the college’s dean position.</p>
<p>All applications have been reviewed and the three candidates were selected based on their credentials and interactions with the search committee.</p>
<p>Gannon students are invited and encouraged to participate in the interview process by attending prescheduled open sessions, during which time candidates will be introduced and given time to speak and entertain questions.</p>
<p>Evaluation forms will be made available at each open session to obtain feedback from the Gannon community regarding each candidate.</p>
<p>The open session for Jeffrey L. Ray, Ph.D, is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday in Room 101 of the Zurn Science Center and  at 8:45 a.m. Friday in the Stubler Room of the Waldron Campus Center.</p>

<p>‘AZQ,’ Erie’s jazz quartet, will be featuring original compositions and music of the post-bop era near the piano at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Waldron Campus Center.</p>
<p>This arts encounter event features Gannon University’s communications department  faculty member, David Blaetz, who will be playing the electric upright bass.</p>
<p>Cajun style refreshments will be offered. The event is open to the Gannon community and to  the public free of charge.</p>

<p>English Awards Night  scheduled for Wednesday night</p>
<p>The English department is hosting its 36th annual English Awards Night at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Yehl Ballroom at the Waldron Campus Center.</p>
<p>The event will feature George Bilgere, author of five books of poetry and winner of the 2010 Autumn House Poetry Series and several other awards and fellowships.</p>
<p>The department will honor the winners of several Gannon University contests including the undergraduate and graduate poetry, research writing, journalism and national high school poetry.</p>

<p>A presenter from the Pittsburgh recruiting office of the Peace Corps will be on campus at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the Wright Room, located on the first floor of the Waldron Campus Center. The representative will speak about the benefits of joining the organization, detail what goes into the application process and will leave time to answer student questions.</p>

<p>The English honors society, Sigma Tau Delta, will host poet Ron Hayes for a poetry night at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Knight Club.</p>
<p>Hayes is an English teacher and varsity football coach at East High School in Erie.</p>
<p>His work has been published in journals such as the Fjords Review, Referential Magazine and the Battered Suitcase.</p>
<p>His poem “All that Remains” was a runner-up for the William Stafford Prize for Poetry offered by Rosebud Magazine.</p>
<p>An open mic opportunity and light refreshments will follow the reading.</p>

<p>Deadline nears for “Celebrate Gannon”</p>
<p>The last day to submit for “Celebrate Gannon” is Friday. The conference will begin at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10.</p>
<p>Entries will be accepted in the categories of graduate research, undergraduate research, undergraduate scholarship, creativity and engagement.</p>
<p>Application instructions may be found at the “Celebrate Gannon” link on the provost’s site at my.gannon.edu.  Prizes will be available in most categories; see the application instructions for details.</p>

<p>GOLD conference coming in April</p>
<p>The GOLD Leadership Conference will be held April 13-14 at Gannon University. The event will feature food, activities and speakers. A nationally recognized speaker, Troy Stende, will be the main focus of the conference.</p>

<p>Team from Commission on Higher Education visits campus this week</p>
<p>The visiting team from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education will be on campus through Friday.</p>

<p>ΔΣΦ holds blood drive Friday in Waldron</p>
<p>The Delta Sigma Phi fraternity is sponsoring a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at Room 219 in the Waldron Campus Center.</p>
<p>The fraternity is partnering with the American Red Cross to do a blood drive.</p>
<p>The fraternity also plans to increase awareness of the Red Cross by encouraging students to show their support to the blood drive by wearing red to the women’s basketball game against Slippery Rock at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27.</p>

<p>Spring break forms are available online through myHousing in the Gannon Portal through 4 p.m. Friday.</p>
<p>Upperclassmen, athletes or international students can fill out forms with automatic approval.</p>
<p>Any freshman students needing to stay for break may fill out a form pending approval from the director of student living.</p>
<p>Late form submissions will be subject to a $45 late charge.</p>

<p>Gannon University’s JumpStart wellness program will hold its ninth annual Wellness Fair Tuesday between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the second floor of the Waldron Campus Center.</p>
<p>The event will feature free health screenings, evalutions, massages and prizes.</p>
<p>New this year, Metz Culinary Management and Honey House Holistic Bakery will give cooking demonstrations for crafting whole wheat pesto pasta and three types of tofu dishes.</p>

<p>The Gannon Physician Assistant Program is sponsoring a woman’s health seminar at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Room 104 of the Zurn Science Center.</p>

<p>The journalism communications program is holding its annual campus-wide contest.</p>
<p>Submissions will fall within six categories: news, features, op-ed, reviews, sports and photo.</p>
<p>Entries are due by noon Friday, March 1, and can be submitted at Room 3229 and Room 3227 of the Palumbo Academic Center.</p>
<p>Students may submit two entries per category. Each submission must have a publication record in either a campus or professional medium between Feb. 24, 2012, and March 1, 2013. Students must tape each entry to 8.5-by-11 white paper.</p>

<p>Gannon University is sponsoring the annual Computer Programming Contest for high school students who can write in Visual BASIC, C++, Java or other high-level programming language.</p>
<p>Individual or group entries are permitted and participants must have a sponsoring teacher..</p>
<p>A cash prize of $300 will be given to first-place winner(s), $150 and $100 will be awarded to second- and third-place winners, respectively.</p>

<p>The Latino Student Committee at Gannon University is holding its first Valentine’s Salsa Night from 7-10 p.m. Thursday at The Knight Club at the corner of Fourth and Sassafras streets.</p>
<p>A Salsa lesson and contest will be held. Students can dance to the music of a Latin DJ. The event will be open to the public. Appetizers will be provided.</p>

<p>Poetry Competition deadline approaches</p>
<p>The English department is accepting entries for its annual student poetry contest. Each student may submit two poems, each on a separate page. Entries must be typed. Students must include their name, address, phone number, major and class level on the front of each entry.</p>
<p>Entries must be submitted to the English department office in Room 3227 of the Palumbo Academic Center by 3 p.m. Feb. 13.</p>
<p>Awards of $100 will be given to the graduate student winner and the first-place undergraduate winner, $75 will go to second-place finishers and $50 to third-place finishers.</p>

<p>Schuster presents singing valentines</p>
<p>Gannon’s Schuster Theatre offers students the chance to send singing valentines to their friends or loved ones.</p>
<p>For an on-campus fee of $5 and an off-campus fee of $10, recepients of the singing valentines will receive chocolate kisses and a personalized note, and will get to listen to a song performed by theater and chorus members.</p>

<p>University holds MLK multimedia contest</p>
<p>Gannon University is holding a multimedia contest themed “Live the Dream.”</p>
<p>Students who are interested should represent the theme through any original creative medium: art, photography, writing, music, etc. Cash prizes will be given to winners.</p>
<p>Submissions are due to Sara Lichtenwalter, Ph.D., by 5 p.m. Monday at Room 1214 in the A.J. Palumbo Academic Center or emailed at lichtenw002@gannon.edu.</p>

<p>Rec Center holds classes</p>
<p>The Carneval Athletic Pavilion is offering exercise classes throughout the semester.</p>
<p>Classes offered include cardio, water aerobics and kettlebell. Students are invited to try these classes and more for free throughout Friday.</p>
<p>Students interested in continuing the classes can reserve one of the 20 spots in each class for $10 for a 10-week session, or can stop by at the beginning of class and pay a $2 drop-in fee, if a spot is available.</p>
<p>Payments must be made by Monday at the Rec Center with cash, checks or GU Gold.</p>

<p>Late Knight funding available</p>
<p>One $500 grant is available for student groups who are interested in hosting a Late Knight Gannon event. The Late Knight Gannon application must be completed in full and returned to Julie Srnka at KEIM 101 by 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15.</p>
